Future Forest Management
Laran Plantation
Aside from rubber plantation, it was decided in 2017 to plant an indigenous fast growing tree species, known as Laran or White Jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba) and Kelampayan or Red Jabon (Neolamarckia macrophylla). An area of 20,000 hectares is planned for planting with an estimation of 1.8 million trees to be planted, and would have an estimate of a 10 year harvesting cycle. Due to its resilience and fast growing characteristics, it is an ideal species choice for reforestation programs.
The timber itself is easy to work with hand and machine tools, cuts cleanly, provides good surface and is easy to nail. It is mainly used for plywood, light construction, pulp and paper and many more.
